Mahjong Soul alternative for a Hong Kong table
Mahjong Soul and Table Mahjong both use Mahjong tiles. They are built for different nights. Soul is a ranked Riichi game. Table Mahjong is a Hong Kong / Cantonese table you open in a browser.
Practice the Hong Kong table, or send friends one private-room link.
Use this page only if the rule set is the question. Stay on Mahjong Soul for Japanese Riichi, rank, and a large matchmaking pool. Come here when the group wants Cantonese-style faan, flowers, and a private link.

When Table Mahjong is the better seat
Families who already play Hong Kong Mahjong usually want the same calls they use at the dining table: chow, pong, kong, and a faan minimum, with flowers on the side. They also want the invite to work for an uncle on a phone and a cousin on a laptop. Table Mahjong is that shape. Create a room, paste the link, and start even if one person is late, because AI can hold the open seat.
You can learn the same table alone. Solo mode seats you with three AI opponents, which is useful before you ask the whole family to show up. Nothing on this path asks for a password. If you later sign in, the account keeps optional companions and a daily streak. Bao the panda is the day-1 companion. It does not score points for you.
When Mahjong Soul is still the better seat
If you want a rank, a season, character cosmetics, or hours of Japanese Riichi against strangers, Mahjong Soul is the product that invested in that. Table Mahjong will not scratch that itch. There is no Riichi ruleset here, no leaderboard, and public Quick Match is paused with no date for its return. Recommending Table Mahjong as a “Soul replacement” for competitive Riichi would be inaccurate.
Other browser Hong Kong tables sit in a third lane. They can be right when you want strangers under Hong Kong rules and you are fine creating a login for a public lobby. Table Mahjong does not try to be that lobby while Quick Match is paused. For a wider map of those choices, see online Mahjong alternatives.
What this is not
Mahjong solitaire sites sometimes appear beside Soul in search results. Solitaire is one person removing matching tiles. Soul and Table Mahjong are both four-player games, and they still disagree on the rules. If you need the Hong Kong scoring details, read the rules and how to play before the first hand.
