What Table Mahjong actually is
Table Mahjong is a free browser game for the traditional four-player tile game used at many Hong Kong and Cantonese tables: draw, discard, chow, pong, kong, flowers, and faan scoring. You can start solo against three AI opponents, or create a private room and send one link. If a seat is empty, an AI player can fill it so the hand can start with two or three people.
Play does not require an account. If you want one, sign-in can save optional table companions and a daily streak. Bao, a panda, is the first companion. Companions do not change scoring, and guests play the same game.
There are no interrupting ads in the game. Public Quick Match is paused while the community is still small, and no reopening date is set. If you need random opponents tonight, a larger lobby or Mahjong Soul is the honest recommendation. If you need your own table, use solo or a private room.
Where the other alternatives fit
Mahjong Soul is polished for people who want Japanese Riichi, a rank, and a big pool of players. It is a poor substitute when the group chat says “Hong Kong rules” or “the way we play at home.” The calls, the minimum faan, and the flowers are not the same game.
